Are these razors CNC made or made by injection molding?
All 3ONE6 Stainless Steel DE Safety Razor handles comprises three individually machined parts. Edwin Jagger has sourced and used 316 Grade Stainless Steel forged in Sheffield. The knurled handle consists of three stainless steel components; the collar, the knurled middle section, and end cap - all CNC machined. Note the quality of the machining is such that machine lines do not appear. There are no signs of the effect of machine cutting or shaping tools changing direction during the cutting process. The 3ONE6 stainless steel DE head comprises two components, each produced using the latest MIM technology (Metal Injection Molding). With specific machining processes used, Edwin Jagger believes the thread cannot be snapped off or bent given the method of manufacture and construction of the top plate.
How would you say it compares to the DE89?
The 3ONE6 razor head provides a smoother cutting action resulting in an easier shave without the fear of aggressive cutting. It also potentially means, ‘fewer passes’. The 3ONE6 head should work more effectively than its competitors, when shaving with a wider variety of shaving angles. The angles are very much influenced or determined by how the wet shaving individual holds the razor.
The safety razor blade is supported by guides and pegs that ensure perfect location and ‘bedding in’ against the bottom plate. The two part head also holds the blade tight, ensuring perfect alignment while removing any possibility of the blade curving or bending when clamped into position. The two part head fittings have been adjusted so the top plate and base plate clamp the razor blade more effectively, removing any chance of the blade actually moving, flexing, or bending during shaving.
The cutting angle of the blade has also been improved. It is slightly different from the popular Edwin Jagger DE89 safety razor head. The blade gap has also adjusted which creates a smooth cutting sensation. The effectiveness of the new cutting angle combined with the amount of blade exposure are further enhanced by the introduction of fine molded ribbing along the edge of the bottom plate. The ribs, or veins, help guide the skin and beard toward the cutting edge of the blade. The 3ONE6 two part head has also been designed to be compatible with a range of safety razor blades. A wide selection of brands should all work effectively with the 3ONE6 head. Although the actual sharpness of the blade is something Edwin Jagger cannot influence.
Can you provide additional information about the anodized handles?
The anodized middle sections of the Edwin Jagger 3ONE6 DE safety razor handles are manufactured from aerospace grade aluminum. The grade of aluminum used for the 3ONE6 range of colored handles has also been selected for its anodizing capabilities and the quality surface finish after anodizing. The anodizing process creates a surface finish that will resist day to day handling and offers a variety of colors.
What's the finishing process of these razors?
The handle components and the two part safety razor head components are subjected to a series of finishing processes consisting of hand polishing and two automated preparation processes before chemical surface enhancement. The combination of hand and semi-automated surface preparation processes and final finishing processes ensure consistent texture, luster/shine and presentation of all components. The same processes are commonly used during the manufacture of medical equipment.
